19 Hurricanes Recognized For Academic Achievement

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University had 19 of its student-athletes recognized earlier this week by the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) for their academic excellence during the 2015-16 school year.

A total of 156 institutions sent in nominees for the 2015-16 Academic Achievement Awards, while a record total of 8,072 student-athletes were recognized. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year. 

GSW's recipients of the 2015-16 D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards are: Neeli Fortson, Kristi Sheridan and Haley West from women's soccer; DJ Garrett, Joshua Swift and Silvio Polly from men's soccer; Kenyona Armstrong and Jaquasha Sesler from women's basketball; Julia Dunlap and Haley Goodson from softball; Earl Dupree, Myles Gay, Mitch Holloway and Michael Ranieri from baseball; Anders Olsson and Nick Ward from men's golf; Ashley Denby and Jamie Thomas from women's tennis; and Carson Fields from men's tennis.
