Ward Appointed to NCAA DII Management Council

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern's Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Women's Administrator Christie Ward has been appointed to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Management Council with her term beginning immediately following the 2019 NCAA Convention.

"I'm extremely honored to have been appointed to the Management Council," Ward said. "It is a great opportunity to be a part of a very important group within the NCAA Governance Structure."

The Management Council is charged with recommending administrative policy and regulations that govern the Division II. The Council reports directly to the President's Council and implements the policies adopted by the Association's Board of Governors and Division II President's Council. The Management Council may sponsor legislative proposals, make interpretations of Division II's bylaws and may also handle resolution of issues and recommendations from other committees and working groups throughout the Division's substructure.

The Council comprises of 29 members and must include at least four directors of athletics, four senior woman administrators, four faculty athletics representatives, two student-athlete advisory committee representatives and one conference administrator. The remaining spots belong to one administrator or representative from each of the DII multi-sport voting conferences, one administrator or representative of DII independent institutions and two "at-large" positions to help achieve diversity of representation.

Ward, who joins the Council as a senior women's administrator, states that this opportunity will "not only give me a chance to feature Georgia Southwestern but it will also give me a chance to represent the voice of the Peach Belt Conference on important decisions within Division II."

In 2016, Ward was appointed to both the NCAA Division II Committee on Infractions and the NCAA Division II Southeast Women's Tennis Regional Advisory Committee, where she currently hold those positions.

The 2019 NCAA Convention will be held in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 23-26 with her term ending in 2023.
