Watson and Samuel Named Top Performers in January

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Men's basketball player Devin Watson and women's basketball player Jamesha Samuel have been named the Georgia Southwestern State University Department of Athletics top performers for the month of January.

Watson, a 6-foot-3 senior from Lawrenceville, Ga., was the team leader in scoring (12.9 points per game) over the Hurricanes nine contests in January. Watson drained an impressive 53.7 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc (22 of 41), added 2.7 rebounds per game and 13 assists for the month.

Samuel, a 5-foot-6 freshman from Valdosta, Ga., closed out the month strong. She posted double figures in scoring in each of the Lady Hurricanes last three games, well above her 5.7 points per game average. Samuel tied for the team high at Clayton State last Wednesday with 12 points and added two steals in 23 minutes on the floor.

GSW coaches nominate athletes and vote for the recipients of the award each month.
