AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern baseball team committed five errors that led to eight unearned runs for Augusta State as the Jaguars swept GSW by scores of 7-1 and 6-4 (in 10 innings) in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Hurricane Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With two outs and ASU ahead 2-1 in the sixth inning, a GSW error led to another pair of runs that ended up being more than enough insurance for pitcher Scott Shipman (4-1). Shipman pitched eight innings, allowed one run - unearned - while walking four and striking out three.

GSW starter Trent Franzago (3-4) also went eight innings, but allowed four runs - two earned - on six hits. He walked two and struck out three.

Michel Coffey had the only multi-hit game for the Hurricanes, finishing 2-for-3.

Jake Sutton, Casey Hanrahan and Justin Thigpen had two hits apiece for the Jaguars.

Errors killed GSW in Game 2, as well. All six of Augusta State's runs in the nightcap were unearned.

The Hurricanes rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the seventh to take the lead behind a sacrifice fly from Andrew Archer and a RBI-single from Zach Moss.

But ASU answered with a run in the ninth and two in the 10th for the win, with the two runs in the 10th scoring off a two-out throwing error.

Cameron Blinn (0-2) takes the loss for the Hurricanes after surrendering two hits and the two deciding runs in his only inning of work.

Wilson Taylor improved to 3-0 after holding GSW scoreless over the final two innings. He gave up one hit and struck out one batter.

Coffey, Moss, John Duran, Andrew Anderson and Corey Benson had two hits apiece for GSW.

Andy Onufrak and Ryan Khan each finished 3-for-4 for ASU.

GSW (14-12, 3-5 PBC) wraps up the series with Augusta State (13-14, 7-4 PBC) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
