Ambrosino Outdueled At Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Georgia Southwestern starter Frank Ambrosino held the 2nd-ranked team in the country to one unearned run on Friday evening at Dolny Stadium. Turns out it was one run too many as the Lander Bearcats defeated GSW, 1-0.

The Hurricanes fall to 11-21, 2-13 in the Peach Belt Conference. Lander improves to 26-5, 16-3 in the PBC.

For the Bearcats, it was their lowest run total in a game this season. LU has had a potent offense this spring, scoring double-digit runs in 16 of its 31 contests.

On Friday night, it came down to a run in the first inning. With a man on first and two outs, GSW made a costly fielding error that extended the inning and ultimately decided the game as the next batter, Weston Lawing, singled home the winning run.

Ambrosino walked only one and struck out seven in 7 1/3 innings of work. Bray Bishop came on to get the final two Bearcat outs.

Dylan Wolchick went the distance for LU. Wolchick also walked only one and struck out nine while holding the Hurricanes to two hits.

The weekend series concludes with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
