Flagler Finishes Series With Win

AMERICUS – Georgia Southwestern's baseball team played in their last home game against, Peach Belt Conference opponent, Flagler College on Monday afternoon. Flagler held the after achieving a least one run during innings 1-5. The Hurricanes came close in a comeback during the eighth inning with three runs but were unable to secure the lead. Flagler won finishing the series last game in an 8-5 defeat.

Josh Sanders had a good day at bat. Sanders went 3-of-4 in batting and made two runs around the bases. Evan Alderman continued his hitting streak to 22 of 24 games and a .392 batting average to lead GSW. Stephen Eldridge, Jarrod Taylor, Zach Moss, and Corey Benson all brought in an RBI each.

The Hurricanes were down one run going into the bottom of the first when Eldridge hit a single that brought Alderman in to score the first run. Taylor followed suit by hitting a single up the middle to bring in Sanders who was on second.

The Saints came back to make six more runs over the next four innings unanswered by the Hurricanes. In the eighth inning the Hurricanes made the most of their at bats starting with Moss when he hit a single up the middle to bring Sanders in for his second run of the day. Corey Benson then hit a single down the right field line to bring in Taylor. Les Cromer was the next up who was walked and then on a wild pitch situation Moss was able to score.

Flagler came back with one more run to put things out of reach for the Hurricanes in the ninth inning.

Lance Shelton (1-8) takes the GSW loss as he pitched to first four innings and allowed six runs and ten hits. Zach Smith and Coty Graham also made appearances on the mound and gave up two hits and one run each.

Flagler's Kyle Bird (2-4) takes the win after pitching seven innings and only giving up eight hits and two runs. Justin Ratte made an appearance for a half inning allowing three GSW runs. Mike O'Reilly finished the game for Flagler and was credited with his sixth save.

Flagler finishes the series with an overall record of (20-25, 11-19 PBC). The Hurricanes finish with an record of (11-30, 6-20 PBC).

Due to scheduling conflicts for West Georgia the previously scheduled home for Wednesday has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. The Hurricanes will be on the road to USC Aiken for their last regular season series in the PBC on April 26-27th.
