AMERICUS, Ga. -  The Georgia Southwestern State University baseball team swept Saturday's season-opening doubleheader against Wright State University-Lake Campus at Hurricane Stadium, 3-1 in the opener and 4-3 in the nightcap, in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

GSW pitchers racked up 26 strikeouts and walked only four over the two games. Offensively, the Hurricanes struggled as freshman Tyler Skelton and senior Josh Logan were the only players to collect multiple hits. Both finished the day with two.

GSW returns to action on Tuesday with a home game against Auburn Montgomery at 5 p.m.

GAME 1: GSW 3, WRIGHT STATE LAKE CAMPUS 1

The Hurricanes scored three runs despite manufacturing only two hits in the opener.

Wright State Lake Campus starting pitcher Zach Kirby loaded the bases in the first inning with three walks and junior Jason Baita scored on a wild pitch to put GSW out front.

The Lakers tied the game in the seventh, but Logan came through with the game-winning hit in the bottom half of the inning when he drove home sophomore Kole Clark, who doubled to open the frame, with a double of his own. Logan scored the final run later in the inning when he crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

GSW senior starter Kyle Spinks threw four scoreless innings before reaching his pitch limit. Spinks struck out nine, walked two and allowed a pair of hits. Senior Matt Hubbard threw two innings of scoreless relief before senior Mitch Holloway (1-0) covered the final three frames. Holloway struck out seven, held the Lakers to two hits and did not walk a batter.

GAME 2: GSW 4, WRIGHT STATE LAKE CAMPUS 3 (7 innings) 

The Lakers took the early lead in the nightcap with a pair of runs in the third inning sparked by a two-run double from Stephen Hoendorf.

GSW put together a three-hit, two-run fourth inning to tie the game. Senior Dakota Long tied delivered the game-tying single that brought home fellow senior Jared Jones.

Senior Danny Molinari led off the sixth inning with a double for the Hurricanes and came around to score on a two-out single by Skelton. 

The Lakers found a way to push across a run and tie the game in the seventh once again, but following a leadoff walk in bottom half of the inning, Logan came through for the second time in the doubleheader. His single sent Jason Baita to third. Following an intentional walk, Jones completed the sweep with a sacrifice fly to deep right field.

Junior Tucker Smith threw 78 pitches over six innings in his GSW debut. He struck out five, walked one, and allowed four hits and two runs. Junior Sage Holderfield (1-0) struck out three during his inning on the hill.
