Britt Legit In Win, Gets Help From Mr. Jones

AMERICUS, Ga. -  The Georgia Southwestern baseball team defeated Valdosta State University, 4-3, Wednesday evening at Hurricane Stadium.

GSW snapped a nine-game losing skid to improve to 3-9 this spring while Valdosta State lost its third straight game to dip to 6-9. The Hurricanes have won three of their last four homes games against Valdosta State.

How It Happened: The Blazers scored a run in the second inning to open the scoring, but GSW answered with two runs in the third. Jason Baita led off the frame with a triple and scored two batters later on a single by Josh Logan, who made it home when Andy Moore followed with a double.

Valdosta State delivered back-to-back solo home runs to center field in the fourth inning to regain the lead, but the Hurricanes plated the final two runs of the game in the fifth. Jared Jones singled to bring home Logan and Bradley Hough's sacrifice fly was the difference.

Valdosta State used six pitchers in the game. Tristan Cone, the second on the mound for the Blazers, took the loss (1-1) after surrendering two runs in 1/3 of an inning.

Who Stood Out: Jones went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Hurricanes. He has five hits over the last two games. Moore added two hits, drove in a run and scored once. Kyle Britt (1-0) was efficient on the hill as the Hurricanes starter finished with 96 pitches over his eight innings of work. Britt held VSU to five hits and two earned runs. He walked one batter and struck out nine. Matt Hubbard was called on to pitch a scoreless ninth and earn his first save of the season. He struck out two batters.

Up Next: GSW travels to North Georgia (4-8, 0-3 PBC) for a three-game weekend conference series starting Saturday at 1 p.m.
