AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Middle Georgia State University baseball team scored nine unanswered runs Wednesday evening to rally from a four-run deficit and hand Georgia Southwestern an 11-6 loss at Hurricane Stadium.

GSW has lost 10 of its last 11 games and falls to 4-19 overall this spring while Middle Georgia improved to 24-9. 

How It Happened: The Hurricanes jumped on Middle Georgia early, stringing together three consecutive hits in the first inning, highlighted by a two-out, two-run triple from Jonathan Martin to take a 3-0 lead.

Middle Georgia scored a run in the second inning and another in the third to pull within a run, but GSW tacked on three more in the fourth. Andy Moore walked with the bases loaded, as did Jared Jones, and Josh Logan scored on a passed ball.

The Knights quickly answered with four runs in the fifth inning to tie the game at 6-6. The big blow in the inning came from Haydn Nechanicky with a two-out, three-run home run to left field.

Middle Georgia scored two runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for the first time in the game and added to the margin with three more runs in the seventh.  

GSW starting pitcher Stewart Tyler tossed 2 2/3 innings, held Middle Georgia to just one hit, but struggled with his command, issuing five walks. He struck out three and was charged with one earned run. Harrison Timberlake allowed four runs over his 2 2/3 innings on the hill and A.J. Hayes (0-1) surrendered five runs over 1 1/3 innings. Sage Holderfield held Middle Georgia scoreless for the final 2 1/3.

All six GSW runs came while Middle Georgia starting pitcher John Hartzog was on the mound. Witt Campbell (1-2) followed Hartzog on the hill and held GSW scoreless for 2 1/3 innings to get the win. The Knights threw five pitchers in the game. 

Who Stood Out: Moore and Jacob Harrell recorded two hits apiece to lead the Hurricanes. Moore added a pair of RBIs.

Dayton Beasley was 3-for-4 at the plate for Middle Georgia with a double. Blake Jackson drove in four runs and was walked three times.

Up Next: GSW travels to Due West, South Carolina, for a three-game, non-conference weekend series with Erskine College (19-9) that begins Friday at 2:30 p.m.
