'Ante' Climatic Day for GSW as Saints Coast, 70-53

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes traveled to Flagler looking to right the ship.

The 'Canes had lost five out of their last six games coming into the Saturday afternoon showdown against the Saints but a quick start by Flagler coupled with cold shooting for the Blue & Gold proved to be too much to overcome as GSW dropped their second straight Peach Belt Conference contest, 70-53.

Flagler shot 48 percent from the field in the first half, including a hot 6-of-14 from the three point line, to take a 40-22 lead going into halftime.

A large part of the Saints first half success was due to the play of 6-foot-8 big man Ante Gospic. The junior forward almost had a double-double in the first half as he chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds.

The Hurricanes found their footing in the second half as Southwestern whittled the deficit down to ten points, 53-43, with just under ten minutes remaining.

The rally stopped there as the Hurricanes couldn't get any closer the rest of the way as Flagler improved to 8-7, 4-4 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Jamon Hawkins led GSW (7-8, 3-5 PBC) with 17 points and nine rebounds on the afternoon.

Senior forward Milos Kluet chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds as GSW outrebounded Flagler 39-31.

Gospic finished the afternoon with 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Saints who only committed five turnovers on the contest.

Gospic led a balanced scoring effort for Flagler as five Saints players finished in double figures in large part due to unselfish play. The Saints finished with 22 assists on just 28 made baskets.

Southwestern will be back in action Monday as they travel to Armstrong Atlantic for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Pirates.
