AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team utilized a balanced attack to dismantle Georgia College on Saturday evening in the Storm Dome, 70-52. Alan Arnett posted a double-double, Jamon Hawkins dished out nine assists and Matt Shaw scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Hurricanes to their fourth-straight victory.

GSW is back at the .500 mark with an 11-11 overall record and the Hurricanes upped their PBC record to 7-8. GSW has won by an average of 17.5 points over the current winning streak. Georgia College has lost three of its last four games and sits at 8-13 overall and 4-10 in the PBC.

Michael Tankersley gave GSW its first lead, which would go unrelinquished the rest of the way, when he made a layup with 15:30 left in the first half to put the Hurricanes ahead, 4-2.

A 12-2 run towards the end of the first period gave GSW some breathing room with a 12-point lead, 23-11. The Hurricanes took a 30-17 lead into the break and improved to 9-3 when leading at the half.

GSW improved on its 50 percent shooting effort in the first half by shooting 58.3 percent in the second stanza. The Hurricanes shot over 50 percent in the second half for the 14th time this season.

Shaw scored 12 of his 17 points and connected on both of his 3-point shot attempts over the final 20 minutes. His free throw with 5:16 to play gave GSW its biggest lead of the night, 26 points. at 65-39.

A quartet of Southwestern players scored in double-figures. Shaw led the way with 17 points. Arnett and Milos Kleut scored 12 points apiece and Michael Tankersley added 10.

GSW was strong on the defensive end as well. Southwestern held GC to their season-low shooting percentage, 26.8, and the Hurricanes held substantial advantages in rebounding, 42-24, and points in the paint, 36-10.

Joey Bell scored 12 points off the bench to lead the Bobcats.

GC had controlled the series with GSW since the Hurricanes joined the NCAA ranks in 2006, winning 11 of 12 meetings, but this season the edge belonged to GSW as the 'Canes emerged victorious in both meetings.

The Hurricanes travel to Montevallo on Wednesday for a 8:30 p.m. matchup with the Falcons.
