AMERICUS - Alan Arnett scored a career-high 34 points and Daryl Davis added a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to lead the Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team to a 91-73 win over Flagler College on Saturday afternoon in the Storm Dome.

With the win, GSW matches its win total from a year ago while improving to 13-3 overall and 5-2 in the PBC. Flagler dropped its third straight game and falls to 8-7 overall and 2-6 in PBC play.

The Hurricanes opened the game on a 9-0 run and never looked back. An Arnett layup put GSW ahead 13-2 with 15:25 left in the first half. The Saints trailed by double digits the rest of the game.

GSW opened its largest lead of the opening stanza when Davis sank a pair of free throws to put the Hurricanes ahead, 42-21, with 2:21 remaining before the break. GSW led 47-28 at the half.

Flagler pulled within 14 points of the Hurricanes on five different occasions over the opening 13 minutes of the second half with the last coming on a Desmond Gibson tip-in to make the score 74-60 with 7:08 to play.

GSW answered with a 10-2 run capped by a pair of free throws from Arnett with 4:48 left. The 22-point lead was GSW's largest of the afternoon.

Southwestern shot 54.2 percent from the floor in the game while Flagler shot to 45.8 percent. The Hurricanes dished out 10 more assists (17-7) and held a significant advantage in points in the paint (44-20) and rebounds (36-29). The 17 assists and 10 steals match season-highs for the Hurricanes. In addition, GSW easily had their best showing at the free throw line this season, finishing the night 21 of 25 (84.0 percent).

GSW had three players score in double figures. Joining Arnett and Davis was Johathan Brooks who scored 16. Brooks was 7 of 9 from the floor, grabbed eight boards, dished out five assists and picked three steals.

It had been almost two years since the Hurricanes had a player score 30 or more points in a game. Evan Mobley dropped in 33 against North Georgia on Feb. 1, 2012.

Flagler matched GSW with three scorers in double figures. Richard Brown led the Saints with 17 and a team-high six rebounds. Keith Matthews added 16 points off the bench and Jerrell Oxendine chipped in 13.

Game 2 of the Hurricanes four-game home stand comes Monday when Southwestern hosts Armstrong at 7:30 p.m.
