GSW Drown The Lakers 51-46

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team (11-10, 6-8 PBC) beat Clayton State (14-8, 7-7 PBC), 51-46, Saturday night in the Storm Dome.

GSW shot twenty four points in the first half and twenty seven in the second half to take the win. Darius Redding stared the game out with a dunk to take the lead for the Hurricanes. The game was tied four times before Clayton put in a lay up and a 3-pointer to take the lead 14-9 with 9:38 on the clock. Darius Hoisten put in a 3-pointer for GSW followed by Josh Birchfield with a lay up and then both made jump shots to come back from five points behind to a four point lead. The Hurricanes were able to keep the lead and go into halftime with a score of 24-18.

Cameron Venus and Birchfield both put in lay ups early in the second to take an eight point advantage. Clayton came back and put in a lay up, free throw and 3-pointer to only trail by two. For most of the second the Hurricanes were able to hold off the Lakers by a basket or two and then Kevin Burnell put in a 3-pointer to take a four point edge and Birchfield put in a free throw to take a five point lead. In the last fourteen seconds both team made two free throws and the Hurricanes kept their five point lead and won 51-46.

Clayton State out rebounded GSW 35-29 and had more turn overs.

The Hurricanes are home in the Storm Dome Wednesday at 7:30 p.m to host North Georgia.
