Price Drops 31; Canes Fade In Closing Minutes At Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. - Senior Brandon Price poured in a career-high 31 points for the Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team Saturday night in a 70-65 loss at Albany State University in the HPER Gymnasium.

The Hurricanes fell to 1-2 overall this season, while Albany State (1-2) picked up its first win in three games.

Neither side gained a substantial lead throughout the evening in a tight ballgame. GSW led by six late in the first half and ASU saw its biggest advange (nine points) come with just over a minute to play.

Back-to-back GSW 3-pointers from Cameron Dozier and Tevin Wise gave the Hurricanes a 52-47 lead with 9:06 left in the game and GSW held a slim advantage for the next five minutes. But a Khaliq Hughes layup put ASU on top for good (60-58) with 3:54 remaining.

Trailing by four in the final minute, GSW had a pair of opportunities to make things interesting as the Golden Rams missed four straight free throws, but the Hurricanes were unable to convert on their offensive end of the floor.

Price was outstanding on Saturday as he hit 10 of 15 shots, including 6 of 10 from beyond the arc, to post his second consecutive game with 25+ points.  Dozier added 13 points for the Hurricanes. Corbyn Jackson pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

Brandon Hudson led ASU with 21 points behind 7 of 11 shooting. Hudson grabbed  eight rebounds and connected on 4 of 5 attempts from 3-point range. Devontay Ward came off the bench to post a game-high nine boards.
