SYDNEY, Australia -- The Sydney Kings announced Friday that former Georgia Southwestern State University shooting guard Adam Thoseby had signed with the National Basketball League Club, the highest level of professional basketball in Australia.

"We are very happy for Adam as he continues his professional playing career, and his rise to the top level of professional basketball in Australia speaks to his overall work ethic," stated former GSW head men's basketball coach and current director of athletics Mike Leeder.

Thoseby joins a roster that includes former University of Georgia star Travis Leslie, who was a second round draft choice of the Los Angeles Clippers in 2011, and spent time on the active NBA roster that season averaging 1.4 points per game.

A native of Melbourne, Australia, Thoseby transferred to GSW in 2015 after graduating from NCAA Division I University of South Dakota where he obtained his undergraduate degree in computer science. In his one year with the Hurricanes, Thoseby participated as a graduate student and was quite productive as he led the Hurricanes in scoring at 15.3 points per game, starting all 26 contests in which he appeared. He scored a career-high 34 points on Jan. 7, 2016, when the Hurricanes defeated Columbus State University, on the road, 109-104. Thoseby was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on Feb. 15, and later to the PBC All-Academic Team.

Over the season, Thoseby averaged 32.5 minutes of playing time per game, five rebounds and three assists, in addition to his team-leading scoring totals. For his efforts, he was named PBC All-Conference third team at the conclusion of the season marking Leeder's 12th and final all-conference selection as head coach of the Hurricanes.

"Adam joins a long list of all-conference players here at GSW, and we are grateful for his time spent on the hardwood," Leeder said.

Thoseby joins four other former Hurricanes who are still competing professionally, including Norbey Aragon (Columbia), Phillip Brown (France), Alan Arnett (Slovenia) and Jure Gunjina (Croatia).

"In addition to being outstanding players, all of these guys obtained their undergraduate degrees, and they continue to be outstanding ambassadors of Georgia Southwestern as they represent our university around the world," Leeder said. 

The Sydney Kings will have an opportunity to play an NBA squad when they travel to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Jazz on Oct. 2 in a preseason matchup.

"It will be great to see a former Hurricane have a chance to compete against the best athletes in the world and we certainly wish Adam lots of success," Leeder said.
