GREENWOOD, S.C. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's basketball team was outscored 26-10 over the final 9 1/2 minutes Saturday and dropped a 97-80 decision to Lander University in Finis Horne Arena. 

GSW was held to 20 percent shooting from beyond the arc (5 of 25), while the Bearcats connected on 10 of 16 (62.5 percent), nearly doubling their season average for accuracy.

The Hurricanes road woes continue as they fall to 0-6 in games outside of Americus this season and 2-8 overall. GSW dips to 0-4 in Peach Belt Conference play. Lander won its second consecutive game and improved to 4-8 overall and 3-3 in the PBC.   

How It Happened: Jalen Morgan made 5 of 9 shots and scored 11 points over the opening 20 minutes to guide the Hurricanes to a lead at the break, 45-44, despite the team struggling from long range (2 of 12). The starting five combined to miss all five of their attempts from beyond the arc in the first half. GSW's largest lead of the afternoon came with 3:12 left in the opening session following a Morgan free throw that made the score 41-37.

The Hurricanes held on to the lead until the 16:36 mark and the game was tied, 67-67, with 10:37 remaining.  

Lander (58.1 percent) finished with a higher shooting percentage than GSW (47.9 percent), made eight more free throws (15-7) and grabbed seven more rebounds (35-28).  

Who Stood Out: All but one of the Bearcats starters scored at least 15 points, led by Marquel Wiggins with 19. Elijah Alston connected on 5 of 6 attempts from beyond the arc, scored 17 points and added a game-high nine rebounds.  

Morgan led the way for GSW with 17 points and six rebounds. Kwei Lartey added 13 points off the bench. Andre Statam and Grant Howard both scored 11 points.

Up Next: GSW travels to Milledgeville, Ga., on Wednesday for a 10 a.m. meeting with Georgia College (6-5, 1-4 PBC).
