AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's basketball team suffered a 78-60 loss in the Storm Dome Wednesday evening against Flagler College.
GSW suffered its ninth-straight defeat and fell to 2-14 overall this season and 0-10 in the Peach Belt Conference. Flagler won its second consecutive game to improve to 7-9, 4-6 in the PBC.
How It Happened: A close first half throughout saw GSW down by a point at the break, 33-32.
There were 10 lead changes in the game. The Hurricanes last advantage came with 12:21 to play when Andre Statam hit a 3-pointer to put GSW ahead, 44-43. The Hurricanes were held scoreless the next five minutes and Flagler answered with an 18-0 run that proved to be the difference. The final score was not indicative of how close the game was up until that run as the 18-point margin was the Saints largest lead of the evening.
Flagler controlled the glass, outrebounding GSW, 44-32, and held advantages in field goal percentage (45.5-33.3) and free throw percentage (83.3-75.0). The Hurricanes swatted away a season-best seven shots and followed up their lowest turnover total of the season (5) with a six turnover effort.
Who Stood Out: Quenten Taylor and Grant Howard led the Hurricanes with 13 points apiece. Taylor dished out a game-high five assists and added five rebounds. Jamari Dean led GSW with eight boards.
Flagler got a double-double from Damerit Brown with 35 points and 10 rebounds. Brown was a perfect 15 of 15 from the charity stripe and 4 of 8 from long range. He was the only Saint to score in double figures.
