MORROW, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's basketball team suffered a 98-75 loss Wednesday evening against Clayton State University in The Loch. 

The Lakers connected on 14 of 21 attempts from beyond the arc (66.7 percent) and never trailed in the game. Clayton State was more accurate from 3-point range than inside the arc (55.6 percent) or at the free throw line (64 percent).

GSW suffered its 11th-straight loss and fell to 2-16 overall and 0-12 in the Peach Belt Conference. Clayton State snapped a four-game losing skid to improve to 6-12, 3-9 in the PBC.   

How It Happened: The Hurricanes spotted Clayton State a 7-0 lead before working the score back to even at 12-12 with 14:33 left in the first half. GSW was held scoreless the following three minutes as the Lakers pieced together six consecutive points and never looked back. 

GSW trailed 46-34 at the break.

The Lakers led by as many as 28 points on two occasions in the second half. 

Clayton State finished with its best shooting night of the season, while GSW shot 40.6 percent. The Hurricanes have allowed opponents to shoot over 50 percent in eight of 11 games during their current losing streak. GSW has not shot over 50 percent since the opening game of the season. The Hurricanes couldn't match Clayton State from long range, but it was the second consecutive game GSW shot 40 percent or better from beyond the arc. Clayton State capitalized on GSW's 15 turnovers and finished with a 27-8 advantage in points off turnovers.  

Who Stood Out: Andre Statam finished with a season-high 18 points to lead the Hurricanes. Statam connected on 4 of 7 attempts from 3-point range and tied Jaylin Rutherford for the team lead with six rebounds. Rutherford pulled down his six boards in only eight minutes of action. Jamari Dean chipped in 12 points.   

Clayton State had four of its five starters score in double figures, led by Aubrey McRae with 30 points. Justin Tuckson added 20. McRae and Tuckson combined to drain 9 of 12 3-point attempts. Jaylen Taylor fell a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Up Next: The Hurricanes travel to Dahlonega, Ga., to face the University of North Georgia (7-11, 2-10 PBC) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
