Taylor Made Double-Overtime Thriller

AMERICUS, Ga. -- R.J. Sessions drained a 3-pointer with 0.3 seconds left in regulation as part of five-point flurry in the final four seconds to send the Georgia Southwestern State University men's basketball team into the first of two overtime periods before losing a 106-103 Peach Belt Conference thriller to Columbus State University in the Storm Dome Wednesday evening.

How It Happened: GSW was down by seven points at the break, 40-33, and trailed throughout the second half until Sessions sent the game into overtime. The Hurricanes never let the deficit expand beyond 11 points, but trailed by 10 with under three minutes remaining.

Kwei Lartey was fouled on a successful put back with four seconds to go and missed the free throw that was deflected out to Sessions for his clutch 3-pointer.

The lead bounced back and forth between the schools in the first overtime. Jalen Thomas scored the final points of the first extra session when he tied the game at 95-95 with a 3-pointer with 25.4 seconds remaining. GSW played for the final shot, but didn't get a clean look and the game went to a second overtime.

Columbus State grabbed the lead with 2:39 left following a Bryant Givens 3-point play and held on until the final horn.

GSW (3-19, 1-15 PBC) matched its season high in 3-point shooting accuracy by connecting on 12 of 24 attempts, but was still outdone by the Cougars as Columbus State made 15 of 25 (60 percent). GSW forced six more turnovers (21-15) and made 21 of 25 (84 percent) from the charity stripe.

Who Stood Out: Quenten Taylor poured in a career-high 35 points behind 12 of 16 shooting, including 4 of 5 from beyond the arc and 7 of 8 from the free throw line, to lead the Hurricanes. He added six assists and four steals, both of which were team highs. Lartey finished with 18 points and a team-high six boards. Sessions scored 17 points and Devin Watson chipped in 13.

Columbus State (11-11, 7-10 PBC) was led by Givens, who posted a double-double with 37 points and 12 rebounds.

Up Next: GSW hosts USC Aiken on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the second game of a three-game homestand.
