'Canes card a ninth-place finish in Savannah

The Georgia Southwestern golf team finished ninth in the 12-team AASU/Southbridge Pirate Invitational in Savannah.

Michael Harris finished the 54-hole tournament tied for 21st place with a 14-over-par 230 total to lead the 'Canes. Adam McKenney was a stroke off of Harris' pace with a 15-over-par 231 total.  Tyler Williams (239) and Jordan Britt (245) completed the Hurricanes scoring.

For the first time in the eight-year history of thnvitational, two teams share the title as No. 8-ranked Lander made up 10 strokes on the final day to catch No. 24 Valdosta State, both teams finishing with an 895 score to capture the title.

A playoff was not competed between the two teams due to darkness. Play began on Tuesday an hour late because of a frost delay

Brent Witcher from Valdosta state won individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 207 (69-70-68).

Southwestern returns to action on March 2-3 at the Panther Invitational in Palm Bay, Fla.
