Gahman's 1-under-par leads GSW at State Farm-Laker Collegiate

HAMPTON, Ga. - The extreme weather cooperated just long enough for the second annual State Farm-Laker Invitational to get its first round in on Monday. And after the opening round at Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club, the two highest ranked teams in Division II are deadlocked at the top. GSW is tied for 13th in the 16-team field filled with nationally-ranked schools.

Top-ranked Georgia College & State University and second-ranked Barry share the lead with 7-under 281 scores, three strokes ahead of 25th-ranked Newberry (284) and seven shots ahead of third-ranked Columbus State and 18th-ranked Lander (288).

Individually for GSW, freshman Nate Gahman (71) is tied for 18th place amongst the 84 golfers in the field.  Craig Gibson (73) tied for 30th; Christopher Hall (74) is tied for 39th; Will Smith (75) and Reese Moseley (77) are tied for 51st and 73rd, respectively.

The first day was originally scheduled for two rounds (36 holes), but the second round was called early due to heavy rains. The tournament will be shortened to 36 holes, with the second round set for Tuesday at Crystal Lake.
