'Canes Stumble At Kiawah

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Georgia Southwestern golf team struggled to shoot a 320 on Tuesday and finish the season-opening 17-team Kiawah Island Invitational in last place.

Fraser Johnston was the only Hurricane golfer to shoot in the 70s on Day 2 and improve on his opening-round score as he followed Monday's 77 with a 75 on Tuesday to finish tied for 40th place in the 85-player field.

Anders Olsson and Nick Ray carded rounds of 81 on Tuesday at the 6,875 yard, par 72 Cougar Point Golf Course. Olsson tied for th 59th overall and Ray finished tied for 76th.

Nick Ward was 13-over par for the tournament and Jordan Baker posted a two-day score of 166.

Southwestern finished 52 strokes behind the team champion, No. 11 North Alabama. No. 6 USC Aiken was a stroke back in second place with a 5-over 581 total. Conner Godsey from North Alabama shot a pair of 69s over the two days to claim the individual title at 6-under.

GSW returns to the links on Sept. 30 for the Aflac/Cougar Invitational at the Country Club of Columbus.
