Olsson Gets Hot Down The Stretch, Leads 'Canes On Day 1 In Tennessee

TAZEWELL, Tenn. - Georgia Southwestern sophomore Anders Olsson birdied his final three holes on Monday to finish Day 1 at the State Farm Intercollegiate tied for fifth place out of 63 participants with a 2-under par 70. The Hurricanes posted a 303 overall at Woodlake Golf Club and ended the opening round in ninth place out of 12 teams.

Olsson was one of only five golfers to birdie the 16th hole and one of eight to birdie the 18th. The Smyrna, Ga. native is two strokes back of the individual leaders, Andrew Hall from Walters State Community College and Warren Cheney from Tusculum College.

Nick Ward finished Day 1 with the 'Canes second-lowest score, 74, and tied for 28th overall. Chris Campos carded a 79 while Jordan Baker and Fraser Johnston ended the afternoon with 80s.

Southwestern sits 19 strokes behind the team leaders, Mars Hill College and Tusculum College.

The final round of the State Farm Intercollegiate is slated for Tuesday morning.
