DADE CITY, Fla. - The 16th-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team sits ninth of 20 teams in the toughest field in the NCAA Division II Golf Regional Championships. Of the four regional tournaments, the South/Southeast Region has 18 of the top 26 teams of all 80 schools playing. The other eight teams are spread out through three other regions.
The Hurricanes entered the day tied for sixth with a Round 1 score of 296 and now sit ninth after posting a Round 2 score of 298.
GSW trails the leaders No. 3 Lynn by 32 strokes and are only two strokes out of the top six teams to qualify for nationals.
Hayes Dupree still leads GSW posting a 69 in Round 1 and a 74 in Round 2 to sit tied for 10th going into the final round.
Nicholas Ward and Chris Low both improved from Round 1's score of 77 to a 73 in Round 2. Ward and Low are both tied for 44th heading into Round 3.
The Hurricanes will tee off tomorrow for the final round on hole 10 starting at 12:50 p.m.
GSW is looking to finish in the top six of the twenty teams in the regional in order to qualify for the finals, May 18-22, at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C. hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.
