HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.- The 19th ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team placed tied for eighth out of 20 teams at the 2016 NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/Southeast Regional Championships at Mission Inn Resort.
The Hurricanes posted a 299 in the final round on Wednesday to tie with Limestone with a three-round 893. GSW drained 11 birdies in the final 18 holes and posted 35 birdies overall during the 54-hole 72-par 6928 yard course.
The 'Canes finished second of all the Peach Belt Conference Teams competing, only five strokes behind Columbus State who finished tied for sixth. GSW also finished second of all the DII schools from the state of Georgia by only five strokes.
No. 4 Lynn won the team title by three strokes with a one-under 863 54-hole score. No. 2 St. Leo edged out No. 5 Florida Southern for second by two strokes.
Ethan Chamineak lead GSW in the 54-hole, three day tournament posting a 69, 73 and 74 to finish with an even par to tie for eighth out of 108 golfers.
Anders Olsson shot five birdies in Round 3 to finish tied for 15th with a three-round 219, his best 54-hole score and best regional finish of his GSW career.
Hayes Dupree recorded three birdies in Round 3 and posted a three-round 229 to finish tied for 54th. Nicholas Ward posted a three-round 230 to move up 11 spots and finish tied for 59th while Fraser Johnston shot a tournament low 76 in Round 3 to move up five spots and finish 100th.
"It was a good run, it's not how we imagined our year ending but it was another great year for us and I am very proud of all the guys on the team and we will be back next year," commented head coach Darcy Donaldson. "I appreciate all the support we have received this year and look forward to the success to come next year."
