COLUMBUS, Ga.- Senior Nicholas Ward posted a two-round, one-under par 141 to lead the 14th-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team after Day 1 at the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational on Monday.
The Hurricanes posted a two-round team score 581 on the 71-par, 6515-yard course at the Country Club of Columbus to sit 12th. GSW is one of six teams ranked in the Top-25 of the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll with four other teams receiving votes.
Lander currently leads the 14-team field with a four-under, two-round 564. No. 13 North Alabama is two strokes behind the leaders with a 566.
Ward shot a tournament low 68 in Round 1 and birdied the last three holes in Round 2 to post a 73 and sits tied for 13th of 75 players.
Ethan Chamineak also posted a 68 in Round 1 and is currently tied for 30th sitting four strokes behind teammate Ward with a 145.
Fraser Johnston shot a 76 in Round 1 and a tournament low 71 in Round 2 to sit tied for 40th with a 147.
Tyler Barker birdied holes 9, 10 and 11 in Round 1 and posted back-to-back 74s to sit one stroke behind Johnston which has him tied for 44th.
Alex Wells and Nix Duncan, who is playing as an individual for GSW, both sit tied for 64 with two-round scores of 153.
The Hurricanes wrap up play Tuesday morning for Round 3.
