KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.- The Georgia Southwestern men's golf team moved up two spots at the Newberry College Invitational on Tuesday to finish sixth at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island.
GSW fired a tournament-low 295 in Round 2 after posting a 304 in Round 1 on Monday to move from eighth to sixth. The Hurricanes posted a 312 in Round 3 to maintain their sixth place status out of the 16-team field.
Newberry captured the tournament win with a three-round 873 and Clayton State finished second with an 888.
Ethan Chamineak led GSW with a three-round 226 (76-74-76) and moved up two spots to finish tied for 20th out of the 81-player field.
Tyler Barker finished two strokes behind Chamineak with a 227 (75-76-77) and moved up four spots to finish tied for 23rd.
Vincent Norrman finished one stroke behind Barker with a 228, firing a tournament-low 73 in Round 2 to finish tied for 28th.
Alex Wells fired a tournament low 72 in Round 2 and finished tied for 33rd with a three-round 230.
Nicholas Ward posted a three-round 236 to finish tied for 54th.
The Hurricanes are back on the links March 12 for the three-day Southeastern Collegiate Tournament hosted by Valdosta State at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.
