CONOVER, N.C. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's golf team fired a 285 as a team to storm up the leaderboard into a tie for ninth place after Round 2 of the NCAA DII South/Southeast Regional played at Rock Barn Golf & Spa. 

The Hurricanes tied for the third best score of the day on the 6,940 yard par 71 course in a field that includes the Top 11 and 16 of the Top 25 teams in the country according to the GolfStat.com Relative Rankings.

Ryan Cahill shot a 2-under 69 to lead GSW and move into a tie for 31st place while Vincent Norrman turned in an even-par 71. Tyler Barker tallied an eight-stroke improvement with a 1-over 72 and Nix Duncan was six strokes better with a 2-over par 73. Wil Hernandez rounded out the scoring with a 13-over 84.  

The First Team All-Conference sophomore and Nicklaus Award Semifinalist Norrman is tied for sixth place on the individual leaderboard, five strokes behind leader John VanderLaan (Florida Southern) who shot a 6-under 65 to sit at 7-under par for the tournament. Sam Broadhurst (Lincoln Memorial) and Tom Forster (Carson-Newman) are tied for second place at 5-under par while West Florida's Chandler Blanchet (-4) and Lynn's Manuel Torres (-3) round out the Top 5.   

Top-ranked West Florida leads the tournament at 567, followed by No. 2 Florida Southern (569) who jumped up three spots and No. 5 Barry (569). No. 6 Lynn is in fourth place at 573.   

Round 3 of the South/Southeast Regional gets underway Wednesday morning from Rock Barn Golf & Spa.
