ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The Georgia Southwestern golf team finished tied for fifth of nine teams in the Peach Belt Conference Championship held at the World Golf Village's Slammer & Squire Golf Course in St. Augustine, Fla. The Hurricanes shot a total card of 891, 27-over par throughout three rounds of work on the par 72, 6,939 yard course.
First team All-Conference Vincent Norrman led the Hurricanes with an eighth place finish, tallying rounds of 76, 71 and 69 for a 216 total. Ryan Cahill finished tied for 15th place with scores of 73, 78 and 71, shooting six-over 222. Tyler Barker (+10) and Wil Hernandez (+11) finished 26th and 27th, respectively. Barker carded a final score of 226 while Hernandez finished with a 227 card. Elias Birkeland (+31) held the final spot of 45 golfers with a 247 total card.
Host Flagler College shot their way to the top with a first place finish, shooting a first round of 294 followed by two rounds of 285 for an 864 total card. No. 12 Young Harris finished in second, carding an 874 (+10). No. 27 Columbus State carded an 879 (+15) followed by fourth place No. 28 Clayton State 887 (+23). GSW was tied in fifth with Lander University, who also shot 27-over 891.
The Hurricanes will now await word to see if they will earn one of the seven at-large berths to the NCAA Division II Tournament that will be announced Friday (April 26).
