Quick Scoring Burst Dooms GSW as Georgia Gwinnett Prevails, 2-0

LAWRENCVILLE, Ga. - Two second half goals 31 seconds apart was all the difference in a defensive battle as the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes' offense stalled and the Blue & Gold fell, 2-0, Wednesday evening to the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies.

GSW (1-5-1) played Georgia Gwinnett (5-0-1) even throughout a scoreless first half.

At the 58:30 mark in the second, Gwinnett's freshman forward Martin Lugo broke free to score his first of the night as his unassisted goal off a deflection found the back of the net.

Merely 31 seconds later, Lugo took a pass from teammate David Burke and scored his second, and what proved to be the final, goal of the night to put the Grizzlies up 2-0.

That lightning fast burst of offense was all GGC needed as it went on to claim victory, 2-0.

Georgia Gwinnett outshot the 'Canes 16-4, but the Grizzlies held a slim 3-2 SOG advantage in the contest. Lugo's two goals in the contest gives him seven on the season.

Southwestern's back in action this Saturday as they return home to Hurricane Field to take on Alabama-Huntsville for a 1:00 p.m. EST match.
