DAHLONEGA, Ga. - After scoring the first goal of the match, the Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team surrendered a pair of unanswered scores to North Georgia, including the deciding goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation to suffer a tough 2-1 loss on Saturday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Complex.
Avery Alderman put the Hurricanes ahead early when his header found the back of the net off a corner kick from Cesar Espinoza at the 6:03 mark.
North Georgia (2-10, 1-3 PBC) evened the match in the 34th minute and a header by Daniel Bowlt with 3:11 to play proved to be the difference as the Nighthawks were able to snap a 10-match losing streak.
The deciding goal game off a corner kick, one of only three corners attempted by UNG. The Hurricanes held a commanding 10-3 advantage in corner kicks during the match.
UNG finished with a 9-3 shots on goal advantage.
Joe Cullip saved seven between the pipes for GSW. Kris Alonzo stopped two for UNG.
Southwestern (2-6-2, 0-4-1 PBC) returns to the pitch on Wednesday to host Montevallo at 3:30 p.m.
