Flagler Mounts Second Half Comeback, Defeats GSW 2-1

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team surrendered a pair of second half goals to Flagler College on Wednesday evening in a Peach Belt Conference match at Saints Field and suffered a 2-1 setback.

The Hurricanes have lost five of their last six matches, with three consecutive matches decided by one goal, and drop to 1-6-1 overall, 0-2 in the PBC while Flagler improved its record to 2-5-1, 2-2 in conference play. GSW has never defeated Flagler with the Saints holding a 9-0 advantage in the all-time series. The one-goal differential is the closest GSW has been since 2008, the first time these schools met.

Silvio Polly gave the Hurricanes an early lead when he found the back of the net in the seventh minute off an assist from Isaac Avila. It marks the sixth time the duo has partnered for a score this fall.

GSW took its 1-0 lead into the halftime break having held Flagler without a shot on goal.

The Saints regrouped and Rostand N. Essomba delivered the equalizer in the 55th minute off an Eamonn Moore pass into the box. Flagler posted the game winner in the 73rd minute with a score in the box from Oscar Davidsson.

Most stat categories ended up being close, as Flagler finished with a 15-13 advantage in shots and corner kicks were even at 8-8.

Joshua Swift made five saves for GSW and Lex Craggs stopped five for Flagler.

The Hurricanes return home for a 1:30 p.m. conference match on Saturday against UNC Pembroke.
