AMERICUS - In a men's soccer match that was even in almost all statistical categories, it was one costly mistake that proved to be the difference on the scoreboard as the University of North Georgia converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute to hand Georgia Southwestern a 1-0 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

GSW falls to 2-9-1 overall, 1-5 in the Peach Belt Conference while North Georgia improved its record to 8-8, 5-2 in conference play. Despite trailing in the all-time series 10-1, the Hurricanes have had close matches with the Nighthawks as of late as three of the last four meetings have been decided by one goal.

Adam Farrell converted the penalty kick on Wednesday after GSW was whistled for a foul inside the 18.

UNG took its 1-0 lead into the halftime break and held on over the final 45 minutes.

GSW finished with a 21-20 advantage in shots and a 9-6 edge in corner kicks. Saves were even at 8-8, fouls tied at 5-5 and both sides were issued a pair of yellow cards.

The Hurricanes wrap up the home portion of their 2016 schedule on Saturday when they host Francis Marion at 3:30 p.m. Senior Day ceremonies will take place prior to kickoff.
