'Canes Offense Stifled At Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - Young Harris College held the Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team to a season-low three shots and capitalized on a pair of second-half scoring opportunities to hand the Hurricanes a 3-0 loss Wednesday evening at the YHC Soccer & Lacrosse Field.

GSW was held scoreless in its third straight match and dropped to 2-11-1 overall, 1-7 in Peach Belt Conference play while Young Harris has won six of its last seven matches to improve its record to 8-6, 5-3 in the PBC.

Carlos Gomez scored the first two goals for Young Harris on Wednesday. The first came in the 28th minute when Gomez followed up Macauley King's penalty kick that bounced off the crossbar. Gomez punched in his second score in the 65th minute after tracking down a loose ball inside the 18.

Ramin Varnhorn capped off the evening with a goal in 73rd minute for Young Harris when he tapped in a rebound off a shot by Gomez.

YHC finished with a 15-1 shots on goal advantage and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Joshua Swift made 12 saves for GSW and Sebastian Thomsson stopped the only one he faced for YHC.

The Hurricanes wrap up their 2016 regular season Saturday afternoon at Lander.
