Polly Scores Twice In Loss At North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Silvio Polly scored a pair of second half goals for Georgia Southwestern State University on Wednesday evening at the UNG Soccer Complex, but an early deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the University of North Georgia defeated the Hurricanes, 5-3.

GSW falls to 4-8-1 overall and 0-4 in Peach Belt Conference play, while North Georgia won its second straight match to move over .500 with a 7-6-0 overall record and a 4-2 mark in PBC action.

GSW found itself in an early hole once again as North Georgia scored the opening goal 12 minutes into the match. The Hurricanes ran their streak to five consecutive halves allowing an opponent two goals when North Georgia made it 2-0 in the 21st minute.

A pair of goals from the Nighthawks in the opening eight minutes of the second half quickly doubled the deficit and proved to be too much for the Hurricanes to recover.

Polly gave GSW its first goal of the evening in the 54th minute off an assist from Thiago Elias. Following North Georgia's final score, Jonathan Sayers broke through for his first goal of the season to pull GSW back within three at 5-2, and followed that up with an assist to Polly in the 83rd minute to round out the scoring. Polly has eight goals this fall, which ties his mark from last season and is two shy of GSW's all-time record.

For the second straight match, GSW finished with the shots on goal advantage in a losing effort. The Hurricanes topped North Georgia, 8-7, and took one more corner kick, 6-5, but doubled the Nighthawks in fouls, 14-7.
