Eagles Take Flight in Second Half to Top GSW 2-0

AMERICUS, Ga. -- A pair of second half goals lifted Faulkner University past the Georgia Southwestern State University men's soccer team, 2-0, in a non-conference matchup Saturday evening at Hurricane Field.

Guilherme Mondaini hit the game winner in the 61st minute when his shot from 30 yards out got up and over the top of the keeper's reach in the middle of the 18-yard box, bouncing off his fingertips and trickling into net.

Faulkner's leading scorer, Pedro Moura, delivered the insurance goal, his fourth of the season, off an assist from Lucas Vilela in the 73rd minute.

Despite a couple of good looks, the Hurricanes were shutout for the first time this fall.

Faulkner finished with 12 shots on goal (six each half) while the Hurricanes were held to a total of three. The Eagles held a slim 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. The teams combined for 25 fouls and six yellow cards.

Kellan O'Hara, Bryan Zuniga and Sebastian Da Silva led the Hurricanes with three shots apiece. Oneil Lewis stopped 10 between the pipes for GSW.

Up Next: The Hurricanes travel to Auburn University at Montgomery on Wednesday for 7 p.m. (CT) non-conference match.
