AMERICUS, Ga. -- It took more than 34 minutes, but the nationally-ranked Clayton State University offense broke through for a score and went on to hand the Georgia Southwestern State University men's soccer team a 2-0 loss Saturday evening at Hurricane Field in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both schools.

Clayton State entered the match ranked ninth in total goals (23) and 10th in scoring average (2.88) in NCAA Divsion II. 

The Lakers improved their record to 7-2 overall, while GSW had its two-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 3-5.

Isaac Pimenta had his shot deflect off a GSW defender and into the back of the net in the 35th minute for his first goal of the season.

GSW trailed 1-0 at the half. The final score came in the 51st minute when Geo Rios (2) took a pass on the right side off a free kick from Ryan King and chipped it over GSW keeper Matthew Sherry.  

Clayton State tallied eight shots on goal in the match. The Hurricanes were held to five. Corner kicks were one-sided with the Lakers holding an 11-1 advantage. Clayton State was whistled for 12 fouls while the Hurricanes committed five.

Sebastian Da Silva led GSW with three shots. Sherry made his first start of the season and saved six.
