Young Harris Slips Past GSW Tennis

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams dropped a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Young Harris on Saturday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. The men fell to the Mountain Lions, 6-3, and the women lost 9-0.

The GSW men watch their overall record fall to 2-6 and PBC mark drop to 0-4. Young Harris improved to 4-2, 1-2 in conference play.

The Lady Hurricanes record drops to 2-8 overall, 0-6 in the PBC while Young Harris improved to 2-3, 1-2 in PBC play.

YOUNG HARRIS 6, GSW MEN 3

Jake Koonce and Steven Blythe gave the Hurricanes a team point with their win at No. 1 doubles where they knocked off Raul Quevedo and Guilherme Frias, 8-4.

GSW earned two tiebreak victories in singles play. Oliver Marshall defeated Brecht Vangrinsven, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 2 and freshman Justin Ralston picked up the first PBC victory of his collegiate career when he rallied from a set down to defeat Cole Cates, 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 6.

YOUNG HARRIS 9, GSW WOMEN 0

The Lady Hurricanes best showing came at No. 2 singles where Anna Kate Shaw pushed Aimee Dorley to a decisive tiebreaker. Shaw was edged out 4-6, 7-5, 0-1 (8-10).

Shaw and Anneliese Leahy lost 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, as did Carly Cangelosi and Sydnee Smith for GSW at No. 1.
