Tennis Can't Quite Turn Tables On ABAC

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams dropped an exhibition doubleheader against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Tuesday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. The men fell to the Stallions, 5-4, and the women lost 7-2.

Both GSW programs return to Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday at Georgia College with matches at 1 p.m.

ABAC 5, GSW MEN 4

The Hurricanes nearly avenged a 9-0 loss to ABAC back on March 4. GSW led 2-1 on Tuesday after doubles play and 4-3 through seven matches. The final two singles matches completed went three sets with ABAC winning in the third at No. 6 singles, 6-4, and at No. 5 singles 7-6 (7-5).

Abel Acuna-Moreno picked up a pair of victories for the Hurricanes. The sophomore from Madrid, Spain, partnered with Oliver Marshall to win 8-6 at No. 2 doubles before he rolled past Nathan Palmer at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

The GSW doubles team of Jonathan Martin and Andrew Greneker won 8-5 at No. 3 over Ray Donovan and Hayden Victer.

Steven Blythe picked up a win for the Hurricanes in singles competition. Blythe defeated Donovan, 6-3, 6-4.

ABAC 7, GSW WOMEN 2

Anneliese Leahy won in both doubles and singles play to lead the Lady Hurricanes.

Leahy and Jamie Thomas defeated Jannelle Taylor and Taylor Cowart at No. 2 doubles, 8-4. Leahy earned her second victory of the day at No. 3 singles where she rallied from a set down to knock off Taylor, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8).

Another tight match came at No. 4 singles where ABAC's Morgan Trask edged out Thomas, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).
