Armstrong Tennis Sweeps In From The Coast

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams dropped a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Armstrong University on Sunday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. Both the women and the men suffered 9-0 setbacks.

The Lady Hurricanes record drops to 4-13 overall, 0-8 in the PBC while No. 4 Armstrong improved to 17-1, 8-0 in PBC play.

The GSW men watch their overall record fall to 3-12 and start 0-6 in PBC. Armstrong, ranked No. 3 in the country, improved to 13-1, 6-0 in conference play.

Armstrong opened the match by cruising through doubles play, losing one game along the way.

Things didn't get any easier in singles action as Pirates, a perennial national power, lost only two games over six matches.

 

The Lady Hurricanes host 8th-ranked Columbus State on Saturday at noon.

(#3 ) ARMSTRONG 8, GSW MEN 1

The Hurricanes best opportunity for a team point against the Pirates came at No. 3 doubles where Jonathan Martin and Andrew Greneker lost 8-4 to Otakar Lucak and Marek Pesicka.

Oliver Marshall won four games at No. 4 singles in a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Jan Porteset.

GSW picked up a team point at No. 6 singles as Armstrong defaulted the match due to injuries.

The Hurricanes return to the courts on Thursday to host Abraham Baldwin at 2:30 p.m.
