Marshall & Crew Win Twice Against ABAC

AMERICUS - Oliver Marshall and Kendall Crew picked up a pair of victories on Thursday afternoon for Georgia Southwestern against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. Marshall had a hand in both of GSW's team points on the men's side in a 7-2 exhibition defeat. The ladies nearly avenged an 8-1 loss earlier this season to ABAC, but came up on the short end of a 5-4 score in the women's exhibition.

GSW returns to action on Saturday with Peach Belt Conference matches against nationally-ranked Columbus State at home starting at 12 p.m.

ABAC 7, GSW MEN 2

Marshall and Steven Blythe defeated the ABAC team of Eymeric Chevalier and Elvyn Nguyen at No. 1 doubles, 9-8.

Jonathan Martin and Andrew Greneker had a tight match at No. 3 doubles as the GSW pair fell to Aykut Apturahman and Ray Donovan, 8-5.

Marshall cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over Chevalier.

Alex Canovas Ferrando picked up five games in the second set of his match at No. 2 singles and Joel Landis did the same in the first set of his affair with Martin Zarate at No. 5.

ABAC 5, GSW WOMEN 4

Crew and Celia del Castillo gutted out a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles over the ABAC pair of Augustina Acuna and Morgan Trask. Crew went on to defeat Trask at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1, to complete her sweep for the day.

All three of the doubles matches were close. Sydnee Smith and Anneliese Leahy were on the tough-luck end of a 9-7 decision for GSW at No. 1, while Lauren Resnick and Jamie Thomas put the Lady Hurricanes ahead 2-1 heading into singles play with an 8-6 win at No. 3.

Del Castillo Torres and Leahy both went to a third set in their respective singles matches. Del Castillo Torres lost 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 at No. 1 and Leahy had a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision slip away at No. 3.

Ashely Denby picked up the other win for the Lady Hurricanes with her 6-2, 6-1 match at No. 6 singles.
