AMERICUS - Georgia College proved to be too sharp for Georgia Southwestern as the Bobcats downed the Lady Hurricanes in both games of a Wednesday evening doubleheader at Lady 'Cane Field.

Game 1- GCSU 8, GSW 4

Georgia College jumped out to the quick 6-0 lead through the first two innings of the opening contest.

GSW got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Lady Canes had their most successful inning of the evening as senior Avery Purser hit a three-run home run to cut GCSU's lead in half, 6-3.

The Bobcats scored two insurance runs over the final two innings to prevail in the first game of the doubleheader, 8-4.

Hayley Knight paced Southwestern with three hits while Purser added three RBIs in the losing effort.

Starting GSW pitcher Ashley Cavender (5-3) was credited with the loss as the sophomore pitched two innings and gave up six runs off four hits.

Game 2- GCSU 8, GSW 0 (Five innings)

GCSU carried their opening game momentum to the second contest of the evening as the Bobcats made short work of the Lady 'Canes earning a shortened 8-0 victory in five innings.

Georgia College starting pitcher Erica Bell (1-0) earned her first win of the season in dominating fashion as the sophomore pitched a complete game shutout giving up four hits.

GSW starter Logan Smith (2-1) was credited with the loss as the senior threw for 3.1 innings giving up eight runs off eight hits.

Georgia Southwestern will be back in action Saturday as the Lady Hurricanes travel to Francis Marion for an afternoon doubleheader against the Patriots starting at 1 p.m.
