Pastor shines, GSW splits with No. 4 Armstrong

AMERICUS - In a tale of two games, the Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes (17-15, 2-6 PBC) split with No. 4 Armstrong (20-3-1, 5-1 PBC) in a Thursday afternoon doubleheader at Lady 'Cane Field.

Game 1: GSW 1, AASU 0

In the first game of the afternoon GSW starting pitcher Allison Pastor was on a mission versus the Pirates who came into the day riding a nine game winning streak.

Pastor threw a complete game-shutout as the junior allowed zero runs off five hits while striking out 8 for the Blue and Gold.

The game turned into a pitcher's dual as AASU's starting pitcher Megan Barnwell (13-2) also had a strong effort as the senior allowed just one run off four hits while striking out three for the fourth-ranked Pirates.

The one run allowed by Barnwell proved to be the difference as Southwestern's junior Nellie Moore lit up the scoreboard for the only time in game off a lead-off home run to start the bottom of the third inning as Georgia Southwestern as Pastor continue to silence the Pirate bats as the Lady Hurricanes prevailed, 1-0.

This is GSW's second win of the season against a ranked foe as the Lady Hurricanes downed No. 13 Rollins College at Lady 'Cane Field last month.

Four different Lady 'Canes attributed for Southwestern's four runs in the game.

Game 2: AASU 10, GSW 1 (5 innings)

While GSW was able to shut out the high powered Pirates in the first contest of the day, the second game proved to be a different story as Armstrong came out with a vengance on their way to an easy, shortened game, 10-1 decision.

Starting GSW pitcher Ashley Cavender (5-5) was credited with the loss as the sophomore gave up three runs off four hits in 1.1 innings of work.

AASU's Hannah Reppert and Briget Devlin both accounted for a home run as the Pirates scored 10 runs off 13 hits.

The lone GSW run was notched by Avery Purser as the senior had a RBI double scoring Hayley Knight in the bottom of the first inning.

The Blue and Gold were led offensively by Elliot Martin who had two of GSW's three hits on the contest.

Starting Armstrong pitcher Shelby Duff (4-1) was credited with the decision as the senior threw for a complete five innings giving up one run off three hits.

GSW will be back in action this Saturday as the Lady Hurricanes continue their six game homestand as they host Flagler College in an afternoon PBC doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
