GSW Splits With King To End Homestand

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern split with King University Tuesday afternoon in a pair of low-scoring contests highlighted by strong pitching efforts.

Game 1:GSW 3, King 1

GSW starting pitcher Allison Pastor (8-6) had a strong day on the mound as the junior threw a complete game allowing one run off a five hits with five strikeouts.

Southwestern lit up the scoreboard first as Mason Moreland stole home to give GSW the early advantage.

King tied up the contest in their half of the third inning but the Lady Hurricanes were quick to answer in the bottom half of the third when Moreland scored off a sacrifice fly by Nellie Moore.

The Blue and Gold cushioned their lead in the sixth inning when an Avery Purser RBI-double scored Moore as GSW went on to claim victory in the first game of the doubleheader, 3-1.

King's Morgan White (4-7) took the loss for the Lady Tornado as the freshman tossed four innings giving up two runs off five hits with four walks.

Game 2: King 2, GSW 0

King recovered in the second game as starting pitcher Hannah Light was simply lights out throwing a two-hit gem as the junior shut out Georgia Southwestern to earn the Lady Tornado a split on the day.

Neither team dented the scoreboard through the first five innings as Light and starting GSW pitcher Ashley Cavender battled it out on the mound.

Heading into the sixth inning, the two pitchers were in the midst of a pitchers' duel giving up a combined three hits.

King broke the stalemate in the top of the sixth inning when Cassie Ringstaff stole home to put the Lady Tornado on the board.

King added to their slim lead in the top of the seventh inning off a lead-off home run by Macy Shupe.

In the home half of the seventh, the Lady Hurricanes went three up-three down as King split the doubleheader with the shutout-victory, 2-0.

Cavender (5-7) pitched seven innings giving up two runs off four hits and striking out three on the losing effort.

Light (8-9) gave up no runs off a pair of hits while striking out three Lady 'Canes.
