Miller, McElroy Pace GSW  to Sweep of Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Georgia Southwestern used a pair of dominating offensive performances Sunday afternoon to sweep Lander as the Lady Hurricanes ended their six game South Carolina road trip on a high note.

Game 1: GSW 15, Lander 6

GSW's Jordan Miller came out of the gates swinging as the junior started off her day with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning as Southwestern raced out to an early 4-0 advantage.

After a pair of runs inched the Bearcats closer, GSW broke the game open over the fourth and fifth innings as the Lady 'Canes scored five runs, including a second long ball from Miller, a two-run blast to center field.

Lander (11-21, 1-10 PBC) tried to rally with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning but the bats stayed alive for Southwestern as the Blue and Gold scored six runs over the final two innings, including a two-run shot from Nellie Moore, to go on for an easy 15-6 victory.

The blast was Moore's fourth of the season.

Miller finished the game going 3-for-5 with 7 RBI and a pair of home runs for the Lady 'Canes.

GSW (21-20, 5-8 PBC) finished with 19 hits on the contest paced by sophomore Rachel McElroy's 5-for-5 effort.

GSW starting pitcher Allison Pastor (10-6) was credited with the win as the junior threw a complete game, giving up six runs off six hits for the Blue and Gold.

Game 2: GSW 16, Lander 0 (5 innings)

Georgia Southwestern's bats remained blazing in the second game of the day as the Lady Hurricanes made short work of the Bearcats.

On the game, GSW displayed a simply dominant offensive performance, scoring 16 runs off 14 hits in just five innings of play.

After two scoreless innings, GSW punched in six runs in the third inning off four hits.

Jordan Miller highlighted the inning earning the home run trifecta for the day as the junior again went long on a two-run blast.

The Lady Hurricanes topped a big third inning with an even bigger fourth as GSW poured in seven runs off seven hits.

The inning was highlighted by a Janna Anderson single that notched a pair of runs and a two-RBI double by Elliott Martin.

A day of offensive fireworks was capped off in the fifth inning when Chelsea Hodges hit a two-run blast as GSW went on for the easy 16-0 victory in five innings.

The homer was Hodges' first of the season.

Rachel McElroy went 3-for-3 with two RBI while Anderson went 3-for-4 with five RBI for GSW (22-20, 6-8 PBC).

Starting GSW pitcher Ashley Cavender (7-8) threw a complete game-shutout allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts in five innings of play.

On the day, a trio of Lady 'Canes led GSW with stellar offensive performances.

Jordan Miller went 5-for-8, with three home runs and nine RBI.

Miller currently has seven homers on the season.

Not to be overshadowed, Rachel McElroy went a perfect 8-for-8 with three RBI and Janna Anderson finished 5-for-8 with six RBI helping GSW sweep Lander (11-22, 1-11 PBC).

Georgia Southwestern will take their current four-game winning streak to Columbus State Wednesday for a Peach Belt doubleheader with the Lady Cougars starting at 5 p.m.
