MILLEDGEVILLE – With five-runs in Game 1 for GSW and a five-run seventh inning in Game 2 for Queens University Georgia Southwestern split the season opener for both schools Saturday evening at Georgia College's Bobcat Blast.

The Lady 'Canes out hit Queens 8-6 in Game 1 and Queens nudged one more hit in Game 2 10-9. The teams combined six errors over the two games.  

GAME 1: GSW 5 Queens 3

Southwestern jumped out to the early lead in Game 1 with a two-run first inning highlighted by a home run from senior Nellie Moore, also bringing in Jordan Miller. The inning ended two runs, two hits, and zero errors and left on base.

GSW's next at bat was successful with Ashley Clifton's single, where she then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Lauren Thrasher sent a ball into right field to which Clifton was able to advance to third. Rachel McElroy then doubled to left field, bringing Clifton in to score. The inning ended after two more outs, the inning ended with one run, two hits, one error, and two girls left on base.

GSW was successful once again in the top of the 4^th. Things were looking up for GSW when Allison Pastor singled to right field. After which Mason Moreland tripled to left field bringing Pastor in to score. The inning finished with one run, two hits, zero errors, and 1 left on base.

The Lady 'Canes were successful in the top of the 5^th inning as well to achieve their last run of the Game 1. Miller singled down the right field line. Keri Tompkins doubled, bringing Miller in to score. Tompkins became stuck in a pickle and was out at second between the second basemen and short stop.

Queens University made a run for it in the bottom of the 7^th inning. O'Brien was the first to score for Queens, after being batted in from a fly out by Cummings. Britt had a home run next also bringing in Bodine too.

GAME 2: Queens 7, GSW 3

GSW continued the scoring trend in the bottom of the first in the second game. Beginning with a walk by Moreland, who advanced to second from a wild pitch, then Hayley Knight brought Moreland in to score with a single down the left field line. The inning finished with one run, one hit, no errors, and one left on base.

The top of the fourth brought in one runner for Queens after two hits, no errors, and finished with one left on base.

The Lady 'Canes matched Queens with a run from McElroy. McElroy walked, then advanced to second from a sacrifice bunt by Thrasher. Then Moreland brought McElroy in after hitting a triple to the right field. GSW finished the inning with one girl left on base.

The Lady 'Canes were successful one more time in the bottom of the 5^th. Moore reached base after being hit by the pitch. Tompkins then singled, letting Moore advance to second. Suzanna Stokes grounded out to the pitcher advancing both runners. McElroy singled to left field bringing Moore in to score. The inning ended with one run, two hits, no errors, and two left on base.

Queen University had a successful sixth and seventh inning. In the sixth, Lindssay reached second base on an error letting Britt score, unearned. The inning finished with one run, hit, error, and left on base. In the seventh, Rosenbalm doubled bringing in Martinez in for the third run of the game. Britt then doubled to center field bringing in Rosenbalm and advancing Hayes to third.  Whitaker then doubled bringing in Britt and Hayes, allowing Lindsay to advance to third. Later Poulton was hit by a pitch, pushing Lindsay in to score. The inning ended with five runs, four hits, no errors, and three left on base.

Senior Pastor took the win for GSW in the first game pitching in all the innings allowing three runs. Queens McCurry took the loss after pitching the whole game allowing allowing five runs and finished with five errors. Pastor struck out seven and walked one after facing 29 batters. McCurry struck out four and walked none after facing 30 batters.

In Game 2, Queen's Rollins took the win only allowing three runs. She struck out four, walked three and faced 35 batters. Ashley Cavender took the loss after facing 35 batters, she allowed seven runs, struck out five, and walked three players.

The Blue & Gold resumes play tomorrow morning in Milledgeville with a doubleheader against West Alabama at 10 a.m.
