Ahoy! Lady 'Canes Upset #4 Armstrong

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Lady 'Canes conclude their week of away games at Armstrong Atlantic. The Lady 'Canes split with #4 ranked Armstrong. This is the third series in a row that the Lady 'Canes came out victorious in the second game.

GAME 1: ARMSTRONG 6 – GSW 0

It was a tough first game for the Lady 'Canes on Sunday afternoon as the Hurricanes were unable to complete a run around the bases.

While on the other side, Armstrong completed six trips around. In the first inning, the Lady 'Canes seemed flattened after a double bringing in one player then a fielding error to allow another runner to make it home.

In the next inning, Armstrong's Kacie Patterson hit a triple into right field. Patterson brought in a runner with this big hit. The next batter hit a single allowing Patterson to finish her trip home.

The Lady 'Canes appeared to be back in the swing of things with two innings on defense completed with quick three up and three down.

However, Armstrong's Andrea Dalton was able to hit a homerun into left field territory to bring in another runner. These were the last runs of the game.

The Lady 'Canes fell 6-0. Senior Allison Pastor (9-7) pitched all six innings; and gave up 11 hits, six runs, and one homerun. Pastor also was able to strike out four out of the 33 batters faced.

Armstrong's Ollivia McLemore (16-2) took the win after pitching the first six innings and only giving up one hit and striking out nine. Rachel Reynolds made a last inning appearance to finish the game.

GAME 2: ARMSTRONG 4 – GSW 6

Quite a turn of events happened for the Lady 'Canes at the beginning of game two on Sunday. With the bases loaded with Mason Moreland, Hayley Knight, and Nellie Moore; Pastor hit a single to bring in the first run of the day. Following this Rachel McEloy and Lauren Thrasher hit doubles to bring everyone around the bases home. Chelsea Hodges was successful in finishing things up in bring Thrasher a full trip home. The inning finished with five runs, five hits, no errors for Armstrong, and one Lady 'Cane left on base.

After a fast defense of three up and down for GSW, they were back to the top of the second inning. Moreland reached second base after a dropped fly ball to left field. Moore was able to hit a single up the right side allowing Moreland to make it home.

Armstrong wasn't going to let the 6-0 lead deter them. Dalton hit her second homerun of the day to put Armstrong on the board.

The next score was when Peyton Roth doubled into right center to bring in two runners. And in a last ditch effort in the bottom of the seventh inning, Roth hit a single to get grounded out at first. In the process of this out Heather Ellis was able to make it home.

Ashley Cavender (9-8) takes the win after pitching the first five innings. Cavender gave up five hits, three runs, and one home run. Pastor finished the last two innings for the Lady 'Canes, earning her first save of the season. Armstrong's Jane Trzaska (5-2) takes the loss after pitching all seven innings and giving up seven hits and five runs. Trzaska was able to strike out seven of the 33 Hurricanes she faced.

The score finished 6-4 with the Lady 'Canes defeating #4 Armstrong Atlantic. The Lady 'Canes were able to snapped a 15 game winning streak. GSW advances to a 19-15 overall record and 3-5 in the Peach Belt. Armstrong continues to a 24-6 record and 9-1 in the PBC.

The Lady 'Canes are back at home on Wednesday, March 26th, for a doubleheader against Peach Belt opponent Columbus State. This game against CSU will be a PINK OUT presented by Zeta Tau Alpha.
