Recap: The Lady 'Canes Softball Goes One-For-Four

Augusta, Ga – The Georgia Southwestern softball team traveled to Georgia Regents University on Sunday afternoon. Peach Belt opponent GRU Augusta swept the Lady 'Canes in the doubleheader.

GAME 1: GSW 1 – GRUA 3

Hayley Knight was the most successful from behind the plate as she went 2-for-4 and brought in one RBI. Erin Steele completed the one run for GSW as the pinch runner for Kiley Doster in the top of the seventh inning.

The Lady 'Canes fell early to the Lady Jaguars during the second inning as the Jaguars brought in one run off a single hit. In the bottom of the fifth inning the Jaguars' Mallory Ferguson hit a homerun down the right field line to bring in two RBIs.

Ashley Cavender (10-13) took credit for the loss after pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and three runs. GRU Augusta's Haley Birkle (7-14) takes the win after pitching the whole game and only giving up eight hits and one run.

 

GAME 2: GSW 0 – GRU 6

The Lady 'Canes were only able to come away with three hits during the course of game two. These hits were made by Jordan Miller, Rachel McElroy, and Doster; however, none were able to produce runs.

Doster was able to hit a double in the top of the third and was able to make it all the way to  third with bases loaded but was unable to make it home.

GRU Augusta was able to get one run in the second, third, and fourth inning. Hannah Vaughn hit a homerun to left field to start the Jaguar scoring. In the fifth inning, three more runs were achieved off of singles and one from a sacrifice fly out to right field.

Allison Pastor (12-10) takes credit for the loss after giving up nine hits and six runs during the six innings pitched. GRU Augusta's Paige Deschaine (10-15) takes the win as she pitched the seven innings with a three hit shutout.

 

Albany, Ga – The Lady 'Canes were on the road again on Tuesday against Albany State for an afternoon doubleheader. The Lady 'Canes split the doubleheader really making their mark in the second game.

GAME 1: GSW 0 – ASU 1

Albany State was able to bring home one runner in the bottom of the fourth inning. This was the only run achieved during the game as Albany State's pitcher Alexa Lopez kept the Lady 'Canes in a shutouts.

GAME 2: GSW 11 – ASU 2

The Golden Rams were able to get the first two runs accomplished in the third inning. As the Lady 'Canes were finally able to get the first run of the day during Game two in the fourth inning.

Going into the top of the fifth inning the Lady 'Canes were able to go on a big ten run inning. The game finished early as the mercy run took place after they exceeded eight runs after the fifth inning.

The Lady 'Canes will be back at home on Saturday, April 12th for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. against Young Harris College. The Lady 'Canes will be celebrating Senior Day between the two games.
