Senior Day Triumph

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern softball team met with Peach Belt opponent Young Harris College for their Senior Day doubleheader. The Lady 'Canes swept the Mountain Lions with early runs in both games.

The seniors showed up ready to show their worth during the doubleheader. Over the course of both games collectively, the seniors hit 18-for-42, which is a .429 batting average. During game one the seniors were 10-for-20. Game two, they were 8-for-22. Seniors Chelsea Hodges and Jordan Miller overall went 4-for-6 in hitting.

GAME 1: GSW 3 – YHC 2

The Lady 'Canes started things up early in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Mason Moreland hit a single to right center, and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Hayley Knight. Senior Nellie Moore was able to bring Mason Moreland around the bases safely with a single out to center field. After one more out, senior Jordan Miller was able to hit a single to the right field allowing Nellie Moore to get home.

Young Harris was able to finally get runs on the board during the fourth inning when two singles into the left field were able to bring in a run each.

The Lady 'Canes responded in the bottom with a run scored by Jordan Miller from a single down the left line by senior Chelsea Hodges.

With no more runs scored the game ended in the Hurricanes favor 3-2. Moreland was able to add two stolen bases to the books after this game. Hayley Knight also succeeded in stealing one base during game one.

Senior Allison Pastor (13-11) takes credit for the win after pitching all seven innings and only giving up two runs, ten hits, and striking out three. Young Harris' Darby Stanford (8-13) takes the loss after pitching six inning and giving up three runs and ten hits.

GAME 2: GSW 5 – YHC 1

The Lady 'Canes kept things heated up and took an early lead during game 2. In the bottom of the first, Hayley Knight reached after a single to center field. Then Allison Pastor was able to reach on an error by the pitcher. Jordan Miller then hit a single to center field allowing Hayley Knight to score an unearned run. Following this Rachel McElroy hit a single to left field allowing Allison Pastor to make it home safely. This inning finished with two runs, three hits, one error, and two left on base.

The next inning for the Hurricanes, Chelsea Hodges and Mason Moreland were able to get on base before Hayley Knight hit a big double down the left line to bring both runners in. This inning finished with two runs, three hits, no errors and one left on base.

Young Harris' Sarah Magill hit a double into left center to allow one runner to cross home plate. This turned into the only run the Mountain Lions obtained.

The Lady 'Canes were able to get one more run after Chelsea Hodges hit a single to right field, then she was able to advance on two outs. Chelsea Hodges finished her trip around the bases when the pitcher threw a wild pitch.

The Lady 'Canes finished the game when a Mountain Lion hit a line drive to Jordan Miller, who then dove to get the final out at third base! Jordan Miller concluded game two with an unassisted double play.

Pitcher Ashley Cavender (12-13) takes credit for the win after pitching a complete game only giving up one run and eight hits. Youn Harris' Katie-Jo Gentry (3-5) takes the loss after pitching an inning and a half giving up four runs and six hits. Karli Timms finished the game for the Mountain Lions, allowing four hits and one run.

The Lady 'Canes are back at Lady 'Cane field for their final PBC regular season doubleheader against North Georgia on Sunday afternoon. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.
