17th-Ranked Georgia College Sweeps Lady 'Canes

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team (7-9, 0-2) met in a doubleheader against No. 17 Georgia College (19-3, 2-0) Thursday night . The Lady Bobcats were able to sweep the Lady 'Canes at Lady 'Cane Field.

GAME 1: GSW 2, GC 5

Georgia College took an early lead in game one, scoring two in the top of the first. Kristen Brooks scored their first run after Abi LeRoy hit a single to the right side and scored off throwing error from GSW later in the inning. LeRoy scored again in the third inning after Lacey Najafi grounded one out the third base. 

The Lady 'Canes heated up and scored two runs in the bottom of the third when Haley Goodson hit a hommer and brought Kiley Doster in. 

LeRoy scored again for Georgia College when she hit a home run to right center in the top of the fifth. The Bobcats scored one more time at the top of the seventh off a wild pitch to win Game one 5-2.

GSW finished the game with 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 1 error.

Goodson (3-5) took the loss for the Lady 'Canes after pitching 7 innings. She gave up 6 hits, 5 run, walked 3 and struck out 1.

GAME 2: GSW 2, GC 4

Georgia College took the lead again in the second game with two runs, a home run by Kristen Humphries in the fourth and LeRoy scored again in the fifth when Tatiana Nettles doubled to left field.

The Lady 'Canes came back to tie the game up at the bottom of the fifth after Rachel McElroy hit a double to center field bringing in Kendyl Carver and Chelsea Littlejohn.

GSW was able to hold off the Bobcats in the sixth inning but despite good efforts Georgia College came back in the seventh to win the game. Nettles hit another double to bring Kristen Brooks in and Najafi also hit a double bringing in LeRoy to win by two runs.

Savannah Carlise (2-4) took the loss for GSW pitching 7 innings, gave up 8 hits, 4 runs, walked 4 and struck out 3.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road this weekend to play Francis Marion University on Saturday in a doubleheader and then  UNC Pembroke on Sunday for another double. Both days the Lady 'Canes play at 1 and 3pm.
